Interrelationship of Building and Surroundings:

Somewhat smaller in scale than surrounding buildings, the Cadden Building helps maintain the enclosed street-scape created by closely-set buildings along Main Street.

Features:

The first story has a modern storefront with wooden shingles placed above. The second floor is covered with a stucco or cement material, there being only one window opening left. This has 1-over-1 double-hung sash. Large metal letters spelling Kaplan's Travel are placed over the facade. Above these is an entablature with frieze and dentils which support the cornice. The frieze bears the legend "The Cadden", surrounded by garlands. At either corner larger brackets with finials are set.

Importance:

The building may incorporate portions of an earlier Greek Revival structure on the same site. The Cadden and the two buildings to the west were owned by the Plaut-Cadden Co. jewelers and dealers in musical instruments. The Cadden was evidently used for office space by the firm.
